Jamshedpur FC have signed 31-year-old Spanish defensive midfielder Aitor Monroy Rueda on a free transfer for the upcoming Indian Super League season.

Monroy was at Inter de Madrid last season, a club which competes in the third tier of the Spanish league system – the Segunda División B.

A youth product of RSD Alcalá between the years 2000 and 2005, Monroy’s senior career started with a four year spell at the “B” and “C” teams of Atlético Madrid.

He left Madrid in 2011 and travelled to Romania where he played for Ceahlăul and CFR Cluj in the Romanian Liga I. After four years in Romania, Aitor moved to Moldova for a season with Sheriff FC followed by a longish stint with the 107-year-old club Maccabi Petah Tikva which until recently competed in the Israeli Premier League.

Monroy has featured in close to 200 matches across Europe and Western Asia. He joins an already strong Spanish midfield contingent at Jamshedpur with Memo extending his contract and the addition of Noé Acosta Rivera and Francisco Medina Luna to the squad.

I am thrilled to be joining Jamshedpur FC.

It is a great opportunity to play in a unique country like India and I am particularly looking forward to playing for the fans in Jamshedpur.

I have heard a lot about them and their love for football.
