The Sub Junior Boys’ National Football Championship also known as Mir Iqbal Hussain Trophy was started in 1977 and was held for boys under the age of 16 until it was converted into an U-13 tournament from the 2023-24 edition.

All affiliated State Associations of the AIFF are eligible to participate in this championship through the two tiers of the competition which is played across the country.
