Northeast United FC have signed 26-year-old former Bengaluru FC fullback Hira Mondal as a free agent. The left-back had signed a two-year deal with Bengaluru FC ahead of the current ISL season, but fell out of favour with the coach and Naorem Roshan Singh started in his stead.

From Kolkata, Mondal spent the early part of his career with various clubs based out of Kolkata – Calcutta Port Trust, Rainbow AC, Tollygunge Agragami and Peerless SC. He joined the East Bengal FC reserves in 2018 and won the GTA Governor’s Gold Cup with them.

The following year, he turned up for Mohammedan SC and was part of the MDSC side that won the I-League Qualifiers in 2020 and gained promotion to the I-League. In the 2020-21 I-League, Hira featured in 15 matches. Mondal has also featured for West Bengal in the Santosh Trophy.

For the 2021-22 season, the left-back switched over to East Bengal FC and played in 16 matches in the ISL. Ahead of the ongoing season, Mondal signed a two-year deal with BFC and featured in the pre-season Durand Cup. However, with game time hard to come by, he terminated his contract with the Blues by mutual consent and has been on the lookout for a club.
