Northeast United FC have appointed former Gokulam Kerala FC coach Vincenzo Alberto Annese as a replacement for the outgoing Head Coach Marco Balbul.

Earlier today, ISL side NEUFC announced the departure of Marco Balbul under whom Northeast United haven’t won a game this season (eight games) and are rooted to the bottom of the table. The Israeli manager Balbul was appointed prior the start of the ISL 2022-23 season.

Balbul’s replacement – the Italian manager Vincenzo Alberto Annese is no stranger to Indian football. He led Gokulam Kerala FC to back-to-back I-League titles in the 2020-21 and 2021-22 seasons. Annese also managed GKFC in the AFC Cup.

The 38-year-old Italian holds a UEFA Pro Licence and was the manager of the Belize National Football Team prior to joining the Malabarians in August of 2020. Annese took to coaching early in his career at the age of 23. His professional career as a head coach started with Italian fourth division club (Serie D) Fidelis Andria in 2010 where he was in charge of the youth teams. Since then, Vincenzo has managed clubs in Estonia, Latvia, Ghana, Palestine, Indonesia and Kosovo. He also coached the Armenian U-19 team.

The NEUFC management will look towards Annese to pull off a miracle with a lacklustre squad which is under-performing. Some of the NEUFC faithful were of the opinion that it was the squad that needed a overhaul and more investment rather than a different face in the managerial hot seat.
