Ukrainian midfielder Ivan Kaliuzhnyi has joined Kerala Blasters on loan for the upcoming season. The 24-year-old has represented Ukraine at the U-17 and U-19 level.
From the eastern Ukrainian province of Kharkiv Oblast, Ivan spent his formative years at Arsenal Kharkiv and Metalist Kharkiv and in 2014 joined the U-19 side of Dynamo Kyiv.
Although he spent quite a few years at Kyiv, he did not end up making an appearance for the club. He was loaned out to Ukrainian second-tier clubs in 2018-19 and 2019-20 and made 53 appearances (3 goals) in the Persha Liga. While on loan from Dynamo, he helped Rukh Lviv win promotion to the top tier and played briefly in the league.
In February of 2021, Ivan Kaliuzhnyi joined FC Oleksandriya who compete in the Ukrainian top tier Premier Liga. Overall, he made 24 appearances in the league with two goals and three assists to his name.
Early in 2022, the 6’2″ central defensive midfielder was loaned out to Icelandic club Keflavik for three months and he now joins Kerala Blasters on loan from FC Oleksandriya. The arrival of Ivan marks the third foreign signing for Kerala Blasters behind Greek-Australian striker Apostolos Giannou and Spanish defender Víctor Mongil.
