Greek-Australian striker Apostolos Giannou is Kerala Blasters‘ first foreign signing ahead of the new season.



Born in the city of Naousa in Greece, Giannou’s family moved to Melbourne, Australia, very early in his life. He spent his youth career at clubs and academies in and around Melbourne.

In 2007, he signed for Greek club Apollon Pontou who were competing in the Super League 1 – the top-tier league in Greece. He would spend the bulk of his career in the Greek Super League 1 (Matches: 151; Goals: 31; Assists: 8).

Apostolos has also played club football in Cyprus in the top tier Protathlima Cyta and in China in the Chinese Super League. In January of 2022, he joined A-League club Macarthur FC and made 20 appearances last season in the A-League. He scored three goals.

Giannou has also played in the UEFA Europa League with PAOK, AEK Larnaca and Asteras Tripolis FC. Overall in his club career, the 32-year-old 6’1″ striker has made a total of 338 appearances in which he scored 65 goals and assisted 32.

Apostolos represented both Greece and Australia at lower age group levels. At the senior level, he has one cap for Greece and 12 for Australia having started representing the latter from 2016.
