FC Goa have announced the signing of former Athletic Bilbao B player and Spanish forward Iker Guarrotxena on a two-year contract.



Born in the city of Bilbao, Iker joined Athletic Bilbao’s academy at the age of nine in 2002-03. He left Bilbao in 2011 and made his debut in the fourth division of Spanish football with CD Basconia.

A season later, he re-joined Athletic Bilbao and Guarrotxena was made part of the reserves team – Athletic Bilbao B – who used to play in the third tier of Spanish football – the Segunda División B.

From the 2014-15 season, Iker played in the Spanish second tier for the next four seasons with CD Tenerife, Athletic Bilbao, CD Mirandes and Cultural Leonesa. After his stint in La Liga 2, he played club football in Poland, Greece and Australia.

Last season, Guarrotxena returned to Spain with UD Logroñés in the third tier and made 37 appearances for the club in which he scored 14 goals and assisted three.

Overall, in his club career, the 29-year-old winger/attacking midfielder has featured in 309 matches in which he scored 60 goals and assisted 23.

Iker is the third foreign signing the Gaurs have made for the new season behind Spanish forward Álvaro Vázquez and Syrian defender Fares Arnaout.
