
FC Goa have wrapped up the signing of former Kerala Blasters forward Álvaro Vázquez on a two-year contract. The 31-year-old Spanish forward scored eight goals and assisted two from 23 matches and was part of the Blasters side that reached the final of the 2021-22 ISL where they finished runners up behind Hyderabad FC.
From Barcelona, Vázquez spent his formative years at the academy of RCD Espanyol and in 2009 graduated to the RCD Espanyol B (reserves) team who were competing in third tier Segunda División B.
In 2010, Alavaro made his way to the Espanyol first team and made his La Liga debut in September 2010 against Real Madrid. He spent the next few seasons playing in the Spanish first tier for Espanyol and Getafe CF. His La Liga record over eight seasons – Matches 154; Goals 26; Assists 8. During his stint with Getafe, he was loaned out for a season to then English Premier League club Swansea City.
From 2018 onwards, Alvaro turned up for a number of clubs in the Spanish second tier – the La Liga 2. He featured prominently for Sporting de Gijón from 2019 to 2021 and he joined Kerala Blasters ahead of the 2021-22 season from Gijon.
The 6′ tall striker has represented Spain at various youth age group levels and won the 2013 UEFA European U-21 Championship.
