Ghanaian forward Kwame Karikari joins Chennaiyin FC

Chennaiyin FC have announced the signing of Ghanaian forward and journeyman Kwame Karikari ahead of the upcoming season.



Karikari started his professional career with Ghanaian club International Allies FC in 2009. In 2011, he moved to Swedish club AIK and played in the Swedish top tier Allsvenskan for four seasons. During his time in Sweden with AIK and Halmstads BK, he was also loaned out to Turkish second tier club Balikesirspor. He represented AIK in the Europa League and scored against PSV Eindhoven and CKSA Moscow.

The 6’3″ went onto play club football in Norway, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, UAE, Georgia, Israel and Uzbekistan over the years and last year, he played in the Thai League. He won the Georgian League with Dinamo Tbilisi in 2018-19 and last season in the first tier Thai League, he scored 13 goals in 29 matches for Nakhon Ratchasima FC (Korat).

Overall, the 30-year-old left-footed forward scored 84 goals and assisted 13 from a total of 260 club appearances. Kwame has been a journeyman in football with him turning for more than 15 clubs over the course of his career.

Kwame is the third foreign signing CFC have made so far behind Iranian defender Vafa Hakhamaneshi and Senegalese defender Fallou Diagne. The club also recently announced the return of Brazilian attacking midfielder Rafael Crivellaro.
