
Chennaiyin FC have signed 31-year-old Iranian defender Vafa Hakhamaneshi ahead of the upcoming season.
Hailing from the historic Iranian city of Gonbad-e Kavus, Vafa spent his youth career at Iranian club Sepahan S.C. and transitioned to the senior team in 2008. Over the next decade, Hakhamaneshi played in the first and second tier of the Iranian League – the Persian Gulf Pro League and the Azadegan League for Fajr Sepasi, FC Rayka Babol and Sanat Naft Abadan FC among others. He made over a 100 appearances in the Iranian leagues. The centre-back won the Iranian league with Foolad FC in 2013-14.
Then in March 2021, Vafa moved to Thai club Ratchaburi Mitr Phol FC and featured in three matches for the club in the AFC Champions League. The 6’5″ defender has been without a club following Ratchaburi’s Champions League campaign and joins CFC as a free agent.
Vafa’s signing follows that of another foreign defensive arrival in Senegalese international and defender Fallou Diagne who joined the club recently. CFC have also made a host of domestic player signings this season.
