Chennaiyin FC have confirmed the signing of Senegalese international and defender Fallou Diagne ahead of the upcoming season.
From the Dakar region in Senegal, Diagne was scouted by French club FC Metz in 2007. After a year with the reserves, he transitioned to the senior side and played in the French Ligue 2 for the better part of the next four seasons. In Ligue 2, the centre-back made 58 appearances.
Then in January of 2012, Fallou joined Bundesliga club SC Freiburg and featured in the German top-tier for three seasons. In August of 2014, he moved back to France and played in the top tier Ligue 1 – first for a couple of seasons with Stade Rennais and then switched over to FC Metz who were now in Ligue 1. In Ligue 1, Diagne made a total of 78 appearances in which he scored six goals and assisted 1. While at FC Metz during his second stint, he was also loaned out to German club Werder Bremen briefly.
2018 saw the defender move to Turkish club Konyaspor and he turned up for the club in the Turkish Super Lig for a couple of years. Last year, Fallou played for Albanian club KF Vllaznia Shkodër and won the Albanian Cup – he joins ISL side Chennaiyin FC from there as a free agent.
Diagne made his national team debut in 2016 and has been capped four times. The 32-year-old also has experience playing in the UEFA Europa League with SC Freiburg.
