ATK Mohun Bagan have wrapped up the signing of Guinean defender Florentin Pogba on a two-year contract from French Ligue 2 club FC Sochaux-Montbéliard. The 31-year-old centre-back is the brother of Manchester United midfielder and French international Paul Pogba.
Born in Conakry, Guinea, Pogba’s family moved to France when he was just eight months old. Florentin turned up for clubs in and around Paris during his formative years and caught the attention of Spanish club Celta Vigo who brought him onboard in 2007. He did not end up featuring for the senior team and joined French club CS Sedan in 2009.
He made his senior team debut in the French Ligue 2 with Sedan in 2011 and after a season was approached by AS Saint-Étienne who paid a transfer fee of 500,000 Euros for the 6’4″ defender. After an initial season back to Sedan on loan from ASSE, Florentin played the next five years in the French top-tier Ligue 1. He made a total of 66 appearances in the French Ligue 1 and also featured in the UEFA Europa League for Saint-Etienne.
In 2018, Pogba joined Turkish club Gençlerbirliği S.K. on loan and then the following season switched over to the MLS with Atlanta United. The last two seasons saw him return to the French Ligue 2 with FC Sochaux – from where he joins ATK Mohun Bagan. Overall in the French Ligue 2, Florentin featured in 141 matches in which he scored seven goals and assisted six.
Pogba’s signing follows that of A-League centre-back Brendan Hamill who joined ATKMB recently.
