Northeast United FC have signed Austrian attacking midfielder Marco Sahanek for the rest of the ISL 2021-22 season. The signing comes close on the heels of Marcelinho’s arrival and NEUFC will look to fill the void left by Federico Gallego’s injury with these new signings.

The 31-year-old played out most of his career in the Austrian second tier with Floridsdorfer AC. In 12 seasons in the Austrian Football Second League, he made 220 appearances in which he scored 48 goals and assisted 62. He also played in the top-tier Austrian Bundesliga for FC Admira Wacker Mödling and SV Kapfenberg for a couple of seasons.

Besides Austria, Sahanek played club football in Malta and Thailand. He featured for Maltese club Hibernians FC in the UEFA Champions League qualifiers in 2017.

During his formative years, he represented Austria at the U-19 level. Prior to joining NEUFC, Marco turned up for Korat who play in the Thai League 1.
