Jamshedpur FC have moved to sign SC East Bengal’s Nigerian forward Daniel Chima Chukwu for the remainder of the ISL 2021-22 season. The 30-year-old striker was brought into replace Nerijus Valskis who recently switched over to Chennaiyin FC.
Born in the city of Kano in Northern Nigeria, Chukwu spent his formative years at Nigerian clubs Festac Sport FC and Bussdor United. In 2010, Chima joined top division Norwegian club Molde FK and won the league thrice and the Norwegian Cup twice during his five seasons with the club. He also represented the club in UEFA Champions League qualifiers, the Europa League and Europa League qualifiers. Chima would return for a second stint with the club in 2018.
In 2015, Chukwu joined Shanghai-based Shanghai Shenxin and played in the Chinese Super League for a season and in the second tier China League One the season after. The next year he spent in the Polish Ekstraklasa with Legia Warsaw; although he only made a handful of appearances for the club, he picked up the winners’ medal as Legia won the Polish league in 2016-17 and 2017-18.
Prior to joining SC East Bengal in September 2021, in his professional club career spanning three countries – Norway, China and Poland, the centre-forward had featured in 262 matches in which he scored 91 goals and assisted 44.
In the current ISL season with SCEB prior to joining the Red Miners, Chima scored two goals from 10 appearances in the league.
I am delighted and honoured to have signed for a prestigious club like Jamshedpur FC. I am really happy the club saw my potential and that the coach and management put faith in me.
I will fight my level best to help the team reach their deserved target and bring glory and smiles to the fans of Jamshedpur.
