SC East Bengal have appointed Mario Rivera as the head coach for the remainder of the season. He replaces Jose Manuel Diaz who left SCEB after the club and coach mutually agreed to part ways.

Rivera had a stint earlier with SC East Bengal during the 2019-20 I-League season when he joined them as assistant coach. He took over the role of manager midway through the season after Alejandro Menéndez left the club. He guided the team to a second-place finish during that season.

The 44-year-old holds a UEFA Pro Licence and has coached Spanish lower division clubs Unión Collado and CD Los Yébenes. He was the manger for the Brunei U-21 side before making his foray into India and joining the Red & Yellow Brigade in 2019-20 in the I-League as assistant manager.

We are happy to appoint him as our head coach. Mario has been part of East Bengal previously and his experience in Indian football will be beneficial to the team for the rest of the season.

Col. Shivaji Samaddar, CEO-SCEB to ISL Media

SC East Bengal’s next match is against Bengaluru FC at the Athletic Stadium in Bambolim on Tuesday, January 4th, 2022.
