Former Ajax academy and reserve team player Darren Sidoel has arrived at SC East Bengal on a one-year contract. The 23-year-old defensive midfielder can also slot in at centre-back.
Born in The Hague, Darren spent his formative years at ADO Den Haag and then joined the famed AFC Ajax academy in 2012. He made his debut for Ajax’s reserve team (Jong Ajax/Ajax II) in the 2017-18 season of the Eerste Divisie (2nd tier, Holland) and won the league with his side. After the season ended, he joined English Championship side Reading FC on a three-year contract.
A frew months later, Sidoel went out on loan to Belgian club KSV Roeselare and in August of 2019 left Reading for good and joined Bulgarian top division side FC Arda Kardzhali.
In July 2020, Darren was on the move again – this time to Spanish club Córdoba CF. He was loaned out to Hércules CF where he played under current SC East Bengal manager Manolo Díaz.
I am happy to have Darren in my plans again.
He has age on his side and is hard working. He can play across the pitch and is a utility player.
I have had a good chat with him and he is raring to go.

Sidoel has represented Netherlands at the U-15, U-16 and U-17 levels. His signing is the fifth foreign player the Red & Gold Brigade have acquired ahead of the new season behind Nigerian forward Daniel Chima Chukwu, Croatian centre-back Franjo Prce, Australian centre-back Tomislav Mrcela and Slovenian midfielder Amir Dervišević.
