
Slovenian international and central midfielder Amir Dervišević is SC East Bengal‘s first foreign signing for the upcoming season of the ISL.
Born in the capital city of Ljubljana, Amir played his youth football at local club NK IB 1975 Ljubljana. He transitioned to the senior team which used to play in the second-tier Druga Liga in 2011.
After three seasons in the Druga Liga which also included a stint at NK Krka, Dervišević moved in 2013 to NK Maribor who played in the top flight in Slovenia – the Prva Liga. Barring a brief loan spell to NK Verzej in the second tier in 2017, Amir turned up for Maribor for seven seasons in the top tier up until last season. He won the Slovenian league thrice and the Slovenian Cup once with the club during his tenure. Dervišević also represented the club in the UEFA Champions League qualifiers and the UEFA Europa League.
The 29-year-old 6’5″ midfielder has represented Slovenia at various age groups and was capped for the national team for the first time in 2018. He has featured in six matches so far for Slovenia.
