Jamshedpur FC have brought onboard winger Komal Thatal on a three-year deal which will keep him at the club till May 2024.

From Sikkim, Thatal spent his developmental years at the famed Namchi Sports Hostel. In 2014, he was advised by his coach to undergo trials for the AIFF Elite Academy who were selecting probables to play in the FIFA U-17 World Cup 2017 in Delhi. Komal successfully cleared the trials and joined the academy soon after.

Komal went onto play a number of friendlies for the U-17 team and featured once in the 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup. After the tournament, he signed with ATK prior to the 2017-18 ISL season. He made his debut at the age of 17 years and 132 days against Jamshedpur FC and became the youngest player to play in the ISL.

Following the merger of ATK and Mohun Bagan AC, Thatal signed a fresh two-year contract with the new entity. Last season, the 20-year-old winger made five appearances. Overall, in four seasons in the ISL, he cumulatively made 20 appearances.

Analyst’s Take

Pacey, tricky winger that’s been struggling for game time.

Lack of fight and work rate means that he might not suit Coyle’s philosophy and could spend yet another season warming the bench.
