Former ATK Mohun Bagan, Bengaluru FC midfielder Edu García has moved to Hyderabad FC on a one-year deal.

The 31-year-old versatile Spanish attacking midfielder spent his formative years at the academy of local club Real Zaragoza (2002-2009). In 2009, he was given a spot in the Deportivo Aragón team – the reserve team of Real Zaragoza which used to compete in the Tercera División. After a few years with the reserves, he moved to fourth tier Club Deportivo Ebro and Sociedad Deportiva Ejea- he helped Ebro win promotion to the third tier Spanish Segunda División B.

In 2016, Edu returned to Real Zaragoza and this time was part of the senior team which played in second tier Segunda División or La Liga 2. A year later García was on the move again – this time to India with Bengaluru FC. He would leave a season later to join Chinese 2nd Div side Zhejiang Greentown FC.

In December 2018, the Spaniard returned to the ISL with ATK and was part of the side that won the league during the 2019-20 season. He signed a fresh two-year contract with the merged identity ATKMB and was mostly injured in the 2020-21 ISL campaign.

Overall in the ISL, Edu has played in 47 matches scoring 12 goals and assisting 10. Last season, he only managed a solitary goal from 11 matches

Analyst’s Take (Amrit, Shlok)

Well-known quantity in Indian football and almost always finishes in the playoffs. Brings quality, experience and is a decisive player in big games.

He’s a seasoned foreigner in the ISL and often underrated. He has poise and motive on the ball and can be extremely dangerous when in form. He likes to get into pockets of space and play quick one-twos to get in behind the defence. Hyderabad have a reliable pair in him and Ogbeche.
