Northeast United FC have struck a deal to bring Portuguese Primeira Liga winger Luís Machado onboard ahead of the 2020-21 Indian Super League.

Born in the city of Lamego in Northern Portugal, Machado joined Portuguese second division club USC Paredes at the age of six. In 2010, after 11 years at Paredes, he left the club to join the reserve team of SC Freamunde. He turned pro with the club after a year in 2011 and played in the second tier LigaPro.

After three seasons at SC Freamunde, Luís left the club to join another LigaPro club CD Tondela and helped them win promotion to the top flight Primeira Liga (aka Liga NOS). The predominantly left winger spent a season with Tondela in the top flight before joining CD Feirense for the next three seasons in the Liga NOS.

Last season after CD Tondela got relegated, Luís moved to Moreirense FC and he joins Northeast United from the Braga-based club. Over the course of his career, the 27-year-old featured in 200 matches in the top two divisions in Portugal and also featured in cup competitions – the Allianz Cup and Taça de Portugal.

Machado’s signing follows that of Mauritanian midfielder Khassa Camara who joined the club a couple of days ago.
