Jamshedpur FC have signed 26-year-old Nigerian defender Stephen Eze ahead of the 2020-21 Indian Super League season.
Stephen started his professional career with top-tier Nigerian Professional Football League club Lobi Stars FC in 2012. Over the next few years, Eze played for a few more Nigerian top-tier clubs before finding his way to Bulgarian First League club Lokomotiv Plovdiv in January, 2018.
In nearly three seasons at Plovdiv, Eze featured in 47 matches in the Bulgarian First League -the top level of the Bulgarian Football League system. He also featured in Europa League qualifying rounds for the club last year in 2019.
Stephen left Lokomotiv Plovdiv in January 2020 and joined Kazakh club FC Tobol. However, an injury during pre-season led to an operation and the club and player parted ways in July 2020.
Standing tall at six feet six inches, the right-footed centre-back has been capped 13 times for the Nigerian Football Team having made his debut in 2015. Eze featured in all six matches in the 2018 African Nations Cup as the Super Eagles finished runners up in the tournament. In club football, the defender has won cup competitions in both Nigeria and Bulgaria (Nigeria Super Cup and Bulgarian Cup).
Eze will be crucial in making our defence mean and miserly. He comes with a solid reputation and representing a World Cup playing nation like Nigeria requires some serious talent.
His towering personality and unyielding attitude towards the game could make him one of the best center-backs in the ISL.
Eze’s presence in the dressing room will be absolutely uplifting for the squad. He is an outstanding young man and a real team player with a huge future for him domestically as well as internationally.
