Punjab FC‘s 17-year-old midfielder Thoiba Singh Moirangthem has put pen to paper on a three-year contract with Odisha FC.
Born in Manipur, Thoiba was part of the youth setup at Punjab FC at the U-16 and U-18 levels before making the jump to the senior side. Over the past two seasons, Moirangthem has featured in 16 matches in the I-League.
By virtue of Punjab FC (formerly Minerva Punjab FC) winning the I-League in 2017-18, they were one of the teams competing in the AFC Cup in 2018-19. Thoiba Singh who featured in six matches in Punjab’s AFC campaign holds the distinction of being the youngest ever goalscorer in the AFC Cup competition at 16 years, 5 months and 4 days.
Thoiba’s signing is in line with Odisha’s recruitment of young up and coming talents for the seventh season of the ISL – he follows Samuel Lalmuanpuia, Hendry Antonay, Saurabh Meher, Baoringdao Bodo and Laishram Premjit Singh who have all signed multiple-year deals.
Can’t wait to get started with Odisha FC and make my mark in the ISL and possibly get into the national team.
I am excited to be a part of a strong core of young Indian players and I am sure I will be learning and improving daily at Odisha FC.
