Northeast United FC have announced the signing of 23-year-old Sikkimese defender Nim Dorjee Tamang for the upcoming Indian Super League season.

From Melli, Sikkim, Tamang spent his formative years at the Namchi Sports Hostel after which he moved to the Air Force Academy in 2009. He went on represent India at the U-16 level before making his way to the Shillong Lajong academy.

After impressing in the Shillong Premier League, Dorjee became a prominent fixture in the Lajong senior team. Over the course of three seasons with The Reds (2014-17), the centre-back featured in 45 matches in the I-League.

The ISL team, FC Pune City came calling in July 2017 and Tamang signed a three year contract with the Stallions. He did not feature in the Indian Super League 2017-18 with injury and fitness issues plaguing the young defender.

In the season gone by – the 2018-19 ISL season, Tamang got on the pitch on six occasions in the league.

With a coach for the upcoming ISL season yet to be announced, NEUFC have been a bit lethargic in the transfer market. Dorjee follows the former Churchill Brothers defender Wayne Vaz to the club who joined a couple of months ago.
