Kerala Blasters FC have announced the signing of 24-year-old goalkeeper Bilal Khan from FC Pune City. Bilal won the I-League’s “Best Goalkeeper” of the Year award and helped Real Kashmir FC to a third-placed finish in the 2018-19 season.
From Khurja, Uttar Pradesh, the 6 ft 5 in keeper signed for the ISL side, FC Pune City in 2016. After making eight appearances for the Stallions, Bilal was sent out on loan to Gokulam Kerala for the 2016-17 I-League season. The following year he was loaned out to to Real Kashmir where he helped the Snow Leopards win promotion to the I-League from the 2nd Division.
Last season was a breakout year for Khan in the I-League with Real Kashmir who were playing in the I-League for the very first time in their brief history. He kept nine clean sheets and was a vital component of Real Kashmir’s third-placed finish above Goa’s Churchill Brothers and Kolkata giants Mohun Bagan.
Before joining FC Pune City, the early part of Bilal’s career saw him represent Churchill Brothers in the I-League followed by season long spells at 2nd Division clubs Hindustan FC and Mohammedan SC.
Bilal Khan is the second goalkeeping signing Kerala Blasters have made this season. He joins Shibinraj who recently joined the Kochi-based side from Gokulam Kerala FC.
With rumours abound that Kerala Blasters FC current custodian Dheeraj Singh Moirangthem is likely to join ATK or Chennaiyin FC, Bilal Khan could well be the No.1 choice for the Blasters behind the sticks.
