Kerala Blasters FC have announced the signing of attacking midfielder Sergio “Cido” Cidoncha from Jamshedpur FC for the upcoming ISL season. The 28-year-old Spaniard joins his former teammate and fellow countryman Mario Arqués who signed for the Kochi-based club a couple of weeks ago.
Born in Madrid, Spain, Cido is a product of the Atlético Madrid youth academy. He spent six years playing for Atlético Madrid B and C teams which included a loan spell to Real Zaragoza. Cido’s career in Spain was mostly spent in the second and third division (Segunda División and Segunda División B).
After Zaragoza, he turned up for Spanish clubs Albacete and Ponferradina before joining Jamshedpur FC last season (2018-19 ISL).
Cidoncha impressed for the Red Miners over the course of the season and has three goals and three assists to his credit from 12 appearances. His fine form in the league was interrupted by a knee injury midway into Jamshedpur FC’s campaign and was one of the reasons the club finished out of the play-off positions.
The signing of the talented midfielder alongside Bart Ogbeche who joined recently should solve some of Kerala’s goal scoring woes. With 18 goals from 18 games, they have scored more goals than only one team in the league last season – Chennaiyin FC, the 10th placed team.
