ISL: 19-year-old defender Bikash Yumnam has joined Chennaiyin FC

Chennaiyin FC have completed the signing of I-League side RoundGlass Punjab FC defender Bikash Yumnam on a multi-year contract. The 19-year-old centre-back featured in The Guardian’s Next Generation 2020: 60 of the best young talents in world football.



From the town of Lilong Chajing (Imphal West) In Manipur, Yumnam spent his formative years at Chajing Inat Kanba Lup and Minerva Punjab/Punjab FC. He made his I-League debut while out on loan at Indian Arrows in February 2020 at the age of 16 years and three months. Prior to this season, he featured in the I-League for RoundGlass Punjab FC for a couple of seasons. Overall, he has made 29 appearances in the I-League.

Bikash has represented India at various age group levels winning the SAFF U-17 Championship in 2017 and the SAFF U-20 Championship in 2022. The 6’0″ centre-back also played in the AFC U-20 Asian Cup Qualifiers 2023 late last year.
