Hyderabad FC have secured the signing of Spanish fullback/winger Borja Herrera on a one-year contract ahead of the new season. The 29-year-old previously played under Hyderabad FC coach Manolo Márquez at UD Las Palmas.

Born in the city of Las Palmas in the Canary Islands, Herrera spent his youth career at local clubs UD Las Palmas and AD Huracan.

In 2012, he signed his first senior contract with Spanish fourth tier club CF Unión Viera and played in the Tercera Division. Then in January of 2014, he switched over to Segunda Division B (third tier) club CD Tudelano and after the end of the season moved to the reserve side of his former youth club UD Las Palmas who were also competing in the third tier.

For the 2017-18 campaign, he was promoted to the senior team of UD Las Palmas and he made three appearances in La Liga for the initial part of the season. Then in the January transfer window, he went out on loan to Real Valladolid and played in La Liga 2 for the remainder of the season.

For the next season, Borja transferred to La Liga 2 side CF Reus Deportiu and in the January transfer window of the 2018-19 season moved to another La Liga 2 side Albacete Balompié.

The following season, the Spaniard moved to Israeli Premier League side Maccabi Netanya FC and made four appearances in the league. Over the last two seasons, Herrera played in the Spanish fourth tier for FC Andorra, Unionistas de Salamanca CF and UD Tamaraceite – from where he joins Hyderabad FC.

Borja is a complete and technically gifted player. From centre-back to centre-midfield, from a box-to-box role to playing as a winger, he is an effective option in the squad.

He was with me during my time with Las Palmas B and he also played in the La Liga with the first team. He has loads of experience in the Spanish second division and in other countries as well and is a good fit for our squad.
