Chennaiyin FC have wrapped up the signing of Bengaluru FC fullback Ajith Kumar for an undisclosed fee ahead of the new season.



Hailing from Anna Nagar in Chennai, Ajith took an interest in football very early in his life . At the age of nine with his father’s guidance and support, he was enrolled into the CPWD Residence Football Academy and soon after, he was playing for the popular Disha Sports Academy.

Ajith then enrolled into the Madras Christian College (MCC) and helped them lift the South Zone title. During his time with MCC, Ajith partnered with Michael Soosairaj in midfield in the college team.

Kumar started playing regularly for Viva Chennai and Chennai United in the CFA Senior Division League when he heard Chennai City FC were conducting trials under Head Coach Akbar Nawas.

He made it through the trials and joined Chennai City FC in 2018 and went onto the win the 2018-19 I-League with the club. He featured in all 20 matches that season.

After another season in the I-League with CCFC, he switched over to Bengaluru FC in August of 2020 on a three-year contract. For BFC, he made a total of 13 appearances in the ISL over the last two seasons and also played in the AFC Cup and the Durand Cup in 2021.

Overall, the 25-year-old left back has made 64 appearances in all competitions and has two assists to his credit.
