Hyderabad FC have announced the return of Spanish defender Odei Onaindia for the upcoming season. The 32-year-old centre-back previously turned up for HFC in the 2020-21 ISL.
Hailing from Basque Country, Odei was part of Athletic Bilbao’s academy during his formative years. He turned pro with another Basque Country club CD Basconia in 2008 and over the next few years represented a number of clubs from the region including a spell with Athletic Bilbao B in 2016.
Barring the one season in the ISL, Onaindia spent all of his career playing in the second and third tier of the Spanish league system with over 335 appearances coming in league and cup competitions in Spain.
From August of 2018, Odei has been at CD Mirandes. He helped the club win promotion to the Segunda División (second tier) in the 2018-19 season. The following season, CD Mirandés made it to the semis of the Copa del Rey with Odei featuring in both legs of the semis where they ended up losing to Real Sociedad.
Then for the 2020-21 season, he was sent out on loan to Hyderabad FC. He was a vital cog for HFC as they narrowly missed out on the playoffs. In his 20 games for Hyderabad in the ISL, he was not dribbled past by an opposing player.
Following his return to Mirandes, he captained the side and featured in La Liga 2 for the club making 27 appearances over the course of last season.
