Mumbai City FC have signed ISL Hero of the League Greg Stewart on a two-year contract ahead of the new season. The 32-year-old Scottish forward scored 10 goals and assisted 10 as Jamshedpur FC went on to win the league last season.
Born in the city of Stirling, Greg was part of the youth setup at Rangers FC academy and then joined the academy at Hearts for a few years. In 2010, Stewart turned pro with Scottish club Cowdenbeath FC and helped them get promoted to the second-tier by winning the third division in 2011-12. He spent the next three seasons in the Scottish Championship.
Starting from 2014, Steward played in the top-tier Scottish Premiership for seven seasons. He represented Dundee FC, Aberdeen FC, Kilmarnock FC and Rangers FC in the top flight. He won the Scottish Premiership with Rangers FC in 2020-21. Greg also had a brief season-long stint at Birmingham City in the 2016-17 English Championship.
The 5’10” centre-forward also played in the UEFA Europa League first for Aberdeen FC and then for Rangers. Overall in his club career which was played out entirely in Scotland and for a season in England, Stewart has made 351 appearances in which he has scored 89 goals and assisted 67.
Stewart was a revelation for Jamshedpur FC last season. Prior to his arrival, JFC had never qualified for the ISL play-offs. Last season, they qualified for the playoffs in style – finishing first and winning the league winners’ shield.
Looking at Mumbai City FC’s foreign signings, Greg’s arrival follows that of Spanish midfielder Alberto Noguera and English-Australian defender Rostyn Griffiths.
