Bengaluru FC have announced the signing of former ATK Mohun Bagan forward Roy Krishna on a two-year contract. The 34-year-old Fijian forward is fourth on the all-time highest goalscorer list in the ISL with 36 goals and 18 assists from 60 matches.
Roy started his career in football with Labasa FC, a semi-professional club which competes in the National Football League (Fiji). After a successful stint at the club, he moved to the New Zealand Football Championship side Waitakere United and helped the club win the New Zealand Premiership four times and the New Zealand Championship on five occasions. After winning the Golden Boot in 2012-13, in July of 2013, he moved to Auckland City FC and won the New Zealand Premiership and Championship with the club the following season. His overall record in the NZ top tier reads: 79 Appearances, 56 Goals, 32 Assists.
Krishna next switched over to Wellington Phoenix – a club based in Wellington, New Zealand. Wellington Phoenix aka The Nix compete in Austrialia’s top tier league, the A-League. In 122 appearances in the A-League spread between the years 2014-2019, the forward scored 51 goals and assisted 26. He won the Golden Boot in the 2018-19 A-League with 18 goals.
ATK was the centre-forward’s next destination prior to the start of the 2019-20 ISL season. Alongside Golden Boot winner Nerijus Valskis, he was the top goalscorer in the league with 15 goals helping ATK win the 2019-20 ISL Championship. The following season, he was level on 14 goals with Golden Boot winner Igor Angulo and picked up the Hero of the League award.
As a Fiji International, Roy has scored 31 goals from 45 appearances and was also called up to represent the national futsal team.
The securing of Roy Krishna’s signature is a bit of a coup of BFC with a host of clubs including Wellington Phoenix vying for his signature. However, the striker wasn’t as prolific last season with seven goals in 16 matches for ATK Mohun Bagan.
