Bengaluru FC have signed Cameroonian international and defender Yaya Banana on a short-term deal for the rest of the 2021-22 ISL season. The centre-back has been brought in as a replacement for Yrondu Musavu-King who is out injured.

Banana spent the early part of his career at Cameroonian club Achille FC Yaoundé. In 2009, he turned pro with Tunisian club ES Tunis. After a few seasons with ES Tunis, Yaya switched over to French club Sochaux where he played for a couple of seasons in the French Ligue 1. This was followed by a brief stint with the Swiss club Lausanne-Sport in the Swiss Super League.

Starting from July of 2014, Yaya spent the next five seasons in Greece first with Platanias FC and then with Olympiacos FC in the Greek first tier.

After leaving Greece in 2019, Banana was without a club up until 2020 when he joined Jordanian club Shabab Al-Ordon Club from where joins BFC on a free transfer.

Overall in his club career, the 30-year-old centre-back has made 236 appearances. He was won the Tunisian league thrice with ES Tunis and the CAF Champions League with the club in 2010-11.

At the international stage, he has represented Cameroon at the U-20 level and the senior team and has competed in the Africa Cup of Nations and FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
