Odisha FC part ways with head coach Kiko Ramirez; assistant coach Kino García to take over

Odisha FC have terminated the contract of Head Coach Kiko Ramirez following a run of one win in their last six matches. The club lie in ninth position in the ongoing ISL 2021-22. Assistant coach Joaquín “Kino” García Sánchez is expected to take over the reins.

According to the club’s official statement:

Odisha FC has terminated Head Coach Kiko Ramirez’s contract. This has been a very difficult decision and not one that the club owners and management have taken lightly.

After lengthy deliberation and consideration amongst the club’s technical committee, it was decided a change is needed now to give the club time to improve performances and results this season. The club would like to thank Kiko for his efforts and wishes him the best for the future. The club shall make further announcements in due course.

Odisha FC had appointed Kiko in July last year. Prior to joining OFC, Kiko’s last prominent role as a manager was at Greek side Xanthi FC in 2019.

Assistant coach Joaquín “Kino” García Sánchez who will take over the reins of the club is a UEFA Pro Licence holder and was a former coach at Valencia CF where he oversaw youth teams. He also worked under the aegis of the Spanish Football Federation as the Director of Coches in the city of Valencia.
