Goalkeeper Karanjit Singh joins Kerala Blasters

Kerala Blasters have signed veteran goalkeeper Karanjit Singh to replace the injured Albino Gomes.

From Hoshiarpur, Punjab, Singh was scouted out by Sukhwinder Singh following which he joined JCT in 2004. After six seasons with the club, he switched over to Salgaocar FC in 2010 and won the I-League 2010-11 in his debut season.

Karanjit initially went out on loan to Chennaiyin FC from Salgaocar in 2015 as part of the ISL draft and a year later signed for the club permanently. He won the ISL twice with Chennai (2015 and 2017-18). He was loaned out to Chennai City FC for the 2016-17 I-League season. In 2019, Singh was made a goalkeeping coach at Chennaiyin FC and left the club at the end of the 2020-21 season after his contract ran out. He joins the Blasters’ as a free agent.

Over the years, Singh has made a total of 49 appearances in the ISL (13 clean sheets) and played in 82 matches in the I-League (26 clean sheets).

The now 35-year-old has also been capped for the Indian NT having made his debut in 2011 against UAE.
