
Kerala Blasters have wrapped up the signing of Bhutanese forward Chencho Gyeltshen ahead of the ISL 2021-22 season.
From Paro district in Bhutan, Chencho started his career with Thimphu-based Yeedzin FC who played in the Bhutan National League. Early in 2015, Gyeltshen went initially on a trial to Thai club Buriram United FC and was later permanently signed by the club and loaned out to their reserve side. In 2016, he played for a brief period for Bangladeshi club Chittagong Abahani Limited.
Prior to the start of 2017-18 I-League season, Chencho joined Minerva Punjab FC from Thimphu City FC. He helped Minerva Punjab FC to the I-League title and was their highest goalscorer with seven goals from 17 matches. The following year, he joined Bengaluru FC in the ISL and scored two goals from nine appearances as the club went on to win the ISL championship. During the second half of the season, the forward was loaned out to NEROCA FC in the I-League where he managed two goals from five matches.
For the 2019-20 season, Chencho returned home to turn up for Paro FC before returning to the I-League last season with RoundGlass Punjab FC. He scored seven goals, assisted one in 14 appearances for the club in the 2020-21 I-League season.
With 10 goals from 36 matches, Chencho is the all-time top goalscorer for the Bhutanese National Team. The forward/left winger is affectionately known as the “Ronaldo of Bhutan” and goes by the moniker CG7.
