Bengaluru FC have wrapped up the signing of the 2020-21 I-League top scorer Bidyashagar Singh on a three-year contract.
From Manipur, Bidyashagar was part of TRAU FC’s youth setup and joined the East Bengal academy in 2016. He was promoted to the EBFC senior team for the 2017-18 CFL campaign and made his I-League debut in 2018 against NEROCA FC. In 2019, Bidya got himself five goals from four matches in East Bengal’s Durand Cup campaign. He also represented West Bengal in the 2017-18 Santosh Trophy in which he scored four goals.
After two seasons in the I-League with the Red & Gold Brigade, Singh moved to TRAU FC last season. The 23-year-old was the top scorer in the I-League for the Manipuri team with 12 goals from 15 matches which helped the club to a third-place finish.
Analyst’s Take (Amrit)
In Bidya, BFC get a hardworking and intelligent striker coming off his breakthrough year.
Bidya prefers a slightly more withdrawn starting position and will look to make runs or help progress the ball.
His skill-sets will also make him an ideal foil for Sunil Chhetri if BFC choose to go with two Indians upfront.
