ATK Mohun Bagan have signed former Mumbai City FC midfielder Bidyananda Singh on a one-year deal.
From Manipur, Singh was part of Sports Authority of India, AIFF Elite Academy and Bengaluru FC during his youth career. In 2016, ATK signed the defensive midfielder and with six appearances during the season helped himself to the ISL Championship winners’ medal.
Bengaluru FC signed the now 23-year-old in 2017 and he was sent out to play in the 2nd Division League in the reserves team. A year later, he was drafted into the senior team playing in the ISL, but did not end up making an appearance.
In 2019, Bidyananda was signed by Mumbai City FC and in his debut season with the club made 10 appearances in the 2019-20 ISL. However, he did not feature in Mumbai City FC’s historic campaign in the 2020-21 season where they completed a league double.
Singh has represented India at the U-13 and U-19 levels.
Analyst’s Take (Shlok)
Being a part of that star- tudded Mumbai midfield, he found it hard to play consistently. However, his performances in the 2019-20 season were telling of his potential. He was highly rated as a youngster but he struggled with injuries.
Best as a 6 who can receive the ball and turn and can also play pinpoint long balls. He will add good depth to the Mariners’ midfield.
