Chennaiyin FC have signed former Mohun Bagan and East Bengal goalkeeper Debjit Majumder ahead of the 2021-22 ISL season.
From Hooghly district in West Bengal, Debjit started his career with Uttarpara Netaji Brigade and featured heavily in the Calcutta Football League representing Food Corporation of India (2008), Kalighat Milan Sangha (2010), East Bengal FC (2011), Bhawanipore FC and Mohun Bagan (2014). With Mohun Bagan, he won the I-League twice – in 2015 and in his second stint with the club during the 2019-20 I-League season.
While he was at Mohun Bagan during his first stint, he went out on loan as part of the ISL draft to Mumbai City FC (2015) and ATK (2016) and won the ISL championship with the latter. He went on to join ATK on a permanent basis in 2017 and stayed at the club up until last season when he switched over to ISL newcomers SC East Bengal. The period with ATK included a loan spell to Mohun Bagan during his last year with the club.
Over the course of his career, Majumder has featured in 47 I-League games and has played in 44 matches in the ISL. The 33-year-old 5′ 9″ keeper had a stellar season with SC East Bengal last season where he made 50 saves in 15 matches earning the moniker “Savejit Singh.”
