ATK Mohun Bagan have signed Chennaiyin FC midfielder Deepak Tangri on a two-year deal. The move marks a return for the 22-year-old defensive midfielder – Deepak was part of the youth teams at Mohun Bagan between 2014 and 2017.

Chandigarh-based Tangri was at the erstwhile Chandigarh Football Academy during his formative years following which he was part of the U-18 setup at Mohun Bagan. In 2017, Deepak moved to the AIFF developmental side Indian Arrows. A year later, he joined Chennaiyin FC from where he was sent back on loan to Indian Arrows. At Arrows, Tangri played in the I-League and made 29 appearances over two seasons.

In 2019, Tangri made his debut for Chennaiyin FC and featured in five matches in the ISL in his first season with the club. Last year was his breakthrough season with him notching up 17 appearances in the 2020-21 ISL.

Analyst’s Take (Shlok)

Was played as a lone DM at Chennai last season, and had to slot in as a makeshift RB at times. Needs to be accompanied by somebody who can carry or pass the ball well. Strong, young CDM, who could be great for ATKMB in the future, but needs to be a bit more composed and mature.
