
ATK Mohun Bagan have announced the signing of current Finnish international midfielder Joni Kauko on a two-year deal.
The 30-year-old midfielder spent his formative years at the academies of Runosmäen Nappulat, Turun Palloseura and FC Inter Turku in Finland and made his senior team debut with Inter Turku in 2008 in the Finnish top flight Veikkausliiga. He won the league with Turku in 2008 and the Finnish Cup in 2009. In 2013, he joined another Finnish club FC Lahti and won the Finnish League Cup with them the same year.
A few months later, Kauko moved to German 2. Bundesliga side FSV Frankfurt and a couple of years later switched over to German 3. Liga side FC Energie Cottbus.
Joni’s next stop was Denmark. He joined Randers FC and played for them between the years 2016 and 2018 following which he moved to another Danish club Esbjerg fB – the club he joins ATK Mohun Bagan from.
In his formative years, Kauko was a regular feature in Finnish youth national teams and made his debut for the senior national team in 2012. He has been capped 28 times since. More recently, he was part of Finland’s Euro 2020 campaign and made three appearances as his side exited the tournament in the group stage.
