Kerala Blasters have announced the appointment of Serbian manager Ivan Vukomanović as their new head coach.

As a player, Vukomanović represented Red Star Belgrade, FC Köln, Royal Antwerp FC and FC Dynamo Moscow among others. The 43-year-old who also holds Belgian citizenship started his managerial career in 2013-14 as assistant at Belgian Pro League club Standard Liège under Israeli manager Guy Luzon.

After Luzon departed, Ivan was appointed as head coach for the following season. In spite of picking up 28 points from a possible 39, he was replaced by José Riga midway into the season. He was offered an assistant coach role under José Riga, but Ivan decided to move on. During his time with Liège, the club competed in the UEFA Europa League as well.

In 2016, Vukomanović took charge of Slovak Super Liga side Slovan Bratislava and helped them to the 2017 Slovak Cup title. He left the club later that year. After a two-year break from the sport, Ivan returned to management and served as interim coach briefly for Cyprus top division club Apollon Limassol in September 2019.

Following another self-enforced break, Vukomanović takes over the head coach role at ISL Kerala Blasters ahead of the new season which is expected to start in November. His assistant at the club will be Patrick Van Kets – a Belgian former professional footballer and manager.
