FIFA World Cup winner and former Barcelona forward David Villa will head global football operations at Odisha FC.

Villa alongside former Odisha FC head coach Josep Gombau and Victor Onate will be part of the football committee at the club.

A household name in Spain and in the footballing world, David has represented Valencia, FC Barcelona and Atlético Madrid among other Spanish clubs before switching over to the MLS with New York City FC in 2014. His prolific stint at NYCFC was marred by allegations of sexual harassment by an intern at the club. Villa denied the allegations, but the club launched an investigation and said it found “inappropriate and unacceptable” behaviour at the organisation, but did not directly name Villa.

After New York City FC, Villa joined Japanese J1 League club Vissel Kobe in 2019 and played alongside former Barca teammate Andrés Iniesta. He retired at the end of the season and invested in Queensboro FC, a club based out of Queens in NYC.

I will try to bring my experience. Obviously, I didn’t play in India but I played soccer for 20 years as a professional and before that in the academy. And in all of the projects that we [his team] are involved in, I try to give all of my experience that I have in soccer.
