Mumbai City FC eased past ATK Mohun Bagan FC to lift the 2020-21 ISL League Winners Shield. While MCFC needed a win to top the table, ATKMB needed just a draw to lift the Winners’ Shield. With H2H coming into play, Mumbai City FC went on to notch a 2-0 win to go level on points with ATKMB and completed the double having defeated them earlier in the season.

With last night’s result, Mumbai have now reached the promised land of an AFC Champions League spot by virtue of winning the league. The goalscorers on the night were Mourtada Fall and Bart Ogbeche who scored in the seventh and 39th minute respectively.

I am very happy because the club and the City Football Group have made a big effort to give us all that we need to work [with]. It is a moment to enjoy, but also to analyse the things that we have achieved this season.

I think we were very strong mentally. We had a difficult situation when we lost against Jamshedpur FC. But we are a strong and ambitious team and deserve to finish at the top of the league.

Hopefully we can win another one [Hero ISL trophy]. I always believed in my players. I know I can believe in them because they are warriors. They are ambitious and amazing people. We are a strong team on the pitch and a family off it.

Sergio Lobera, Head Coach, Mumbai City FC to ISL Media

Mumbai City FC will now take on FC Goa in the play-off semi-finals on March 5 and March 8 in their bid to complete the double by winning the ISL Championship.
