Chennaiyin FC have signed Manuel Lanzarote to replace the injured Rafael Crivellaro for the remainder of the 2020-21 ISL season. The Brazilian playmaker Crivellaro who was been phenomenal for CFC (especially last season) has been ruled out for the current season due to a ligamentous injury on his left ankle. He will be returning to Brazil soon.

Rafael’s replacement – the Spanish midfielder Manuel Lanzarote is no stranger to ISL having previously turned up for FC Goa and ATK. The 36-year-old former FC Barcelona youth academy graduate was with FC Goa in 2017-18 and with ATK during the 2018-19 season. In those two seasons, he contributed with 18 goals and 8 assists from 33 appearances.

Lanza as he is popularly known has played out the bulk of his career in the top three tiers in Spain and also briefly played club football in Greece. In Spain, he has made 242 appearances in the top 3 leagues in which he scored 60 goals and assisted 29 goals. Last season, he helped Spanish club CE Sabadell FC win promotion to the Spanish second tier – the Segunda División. He then switched over to fourth tier side UE Sant Andreu from where he joins Chennaiyin FC on a free transfer for the rest of the season.

The winger can play anywhere across midfield in an advanced role. He will arrive in Goa shortly for the mandatory quarantine and will most likely be part of the squad in the game against Hyderabad FC on January 31.

I am very happy and proud of the opportunity to play for a club that has won the ISL twice.

Although it will be a very short stage, I hope to contribute with my experience and be able to help my teammates to achieve our goal.
