
Chennaiyin FC have wrapped up a deal for 31-year-old Slovak forward Jakub Sylvestr ahead of the 2020-21 Indian Super League season.
From the city of Banská Bystrica in Slovakia, Sylvestr spent his formative years at local clubs JUPIE Banská Bystrica and FK Dukla Banská Bystrica following which he joined ŠK Slovan Bratislava which is based in the capital city of Bratislava.
Jakub turned pro with ŠK Slovan Bratislava in 2007 and in 2010 moved to Croatian club Dinamo Zagreb. In 2012, the striker switched to Germany and over the next few years played club football in the second tier of the German league – 2. Bundesliga with clubs 1. FC Nürnberg and FC Erzgebirge Aue among others. He was the highest goalscorer in 2. Bundesliga with 15 goals and five assists in the 2013-14 season.
After a brief sojourn with club football in Denmark, Sylvestr has been playing football in the top tier Israeli Premier League over the past three seasons. He last featured for Hapoel Haifa FC and joins two-time ISL champions Chennaiyin FC on a free transfer.
Jakub in the course of his club career has scored 95 goals and assisted 39 in 368 matches. He has won the top tier Slovak Super Liga twice, the Croatian league (Prva HNL) and the Croatian Cup twice and the Israeli cup with Bnei Yehuda FC. He has played in the Europa League and UEFA Champions League qualifiers and also represented the Slovakia National Team (six caps).
