Former Jamshedpur FC winger Farukh Choudhary makes a return home to Mumbai after signing a three-year contract with Mumbai City FC.

From Ambernath City in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, Choudhary started his career with MDFA league side Central Bank of India following which he joined the academy of the now defunct Pune FC. In the 2015-16 season, he was part of the Lonestar Kashmir team who were competing in the 2nd Division League.

In 2016, Kerala Blasters came looking for the attacking midfielder and Farukh penned a deal with the Kochi-based ISL team. After making two appearances in the 2016 ISL, he was loaned out to the now dissolved Mumbai FC who were in the I-League – Choudhary went on to make 10 appearances in the 2016-17 league season.

Farukh joined Jamshedpur FC the following season and over the last three seasons has been one of the standout Indian players for the side in the ISL.

The 23-year-old has so far featured in 46 matches in the ISL and has contributed with three goals and four assists. He is also an Indian international with 10 caps to his credit having made his debut in 2018 in the SAFF Championships.

The feeling of representing your own hometown is unmatched, and I want to thank Mumbai City for giving me the opportunity to do the same at the highest level of football in the country.

The vision in place at Mumbai City was a key factor and I am confident this is the right step for me and my development at this stage of my career. I’m excited to start this new chapter of my life.

We’re going to miss playing in front of our fans this season, but we’ll bring the spirit of Mumbai to the pitch here and we’ll be playing for them.

With his dynamism and versatility, Farukh adds a new dimension to our attack and we were keen on bringing him to the club.

He’s young, he’s hungry and has the ability to influence the game on his own.

All of us at Mumbai City are confident that Farukh has a big future ahead of him and we hope he can help us as much as we want to help him grow.
