Chennaiyin FC have signed 30-year-old Tajik International and winger Fatkhullo Fatkhuloev for the 2020-21 ISL season. The players fills in as a player under the AFC category which is a requirement starting this season in the ISL.
Fatkhuloev played out most of his club career with Tajik giants FC Istiklol which is based in the city of Dushanbe in Tajikistan. He won the top-tier Tajikistan Higher League seven times, the Tajikistan Cup six times and also reached the AFC Cup final twice with the club.
Fatkhullo is the most-capped footballer for the Tajikistan National Team with 70 appearances which have yielded 10 goals. The winger has also played club football in Uzbekistan with Buxoro FK. He joins Chennaiyin FC from FK Khujand – a club based in Khujand, Tajikistan. Last season, the club finished second in the league with Fatkhuloev scoring four goals and assisting three.
I have heard a lot about Chennaiyin, seen many matches from previous seasons. CFC is one of the biggest clubs in India with fantastic fans. So when the opportunity arose to make the move, I didn’t think twice.
I am really excited about meeting my new teammates, and hopefully delivering a good brand of football with them, which helps us compete for the ISL title.
Fatkhullo Fatkhuloev
In Fatkhulo (Fatkhulloev), we are signing an experienced professional who has proven his mettle for club and country.
He is yet another player who fits our mould of versatility, capable of performing on both wings, and even down the middle.
He has won all the major honours back home in Tajikistan, so an added advantage is the winning mentality he will bring to the table.
