Mohammedan SC’s new investors are Haryana-based Bunkerhill Private Limited, the club announced at a Kolkata hotel yesterday on the fifth of October. Bunkerhill are expected to pick up a 50% stake in the club. The deal is for a duration of three years and can be extended if both parties agree.
The club also released its new home and away kit and the jerseys are reminiscent of the Marvel superhero “Black Panther” – the 129-year-old club also goes by the moniker, Black Panthers.

Founded in 1891, Mohammedan are one of the oldest clubs in India and are part of the trinity of legacy clubs in Kolkata – the other two are Mohun Bagan AC and East Bengal FC forming the “Big Three.” MDSC have won the Calcutta Football League 11 times, but the last title came nearly four decades ago in 1981. They are also serial winners of the Federation Cup, Durand Cup, IFA Shield, Rovers Cup among many other accolades.
After getting relegated to the 2nd Division League at the end of the 2013-14 season, the Black Panthers have struggled to get back into the I-League. MDSC have invested in a new coach, added star players and found financial backing as they attempt to get back into relevance and do justice to their rich legacy.
This is a historic day for all of us. We are very very happy and proud to be the administrators of such a giant club of India and hopefully the deal between us and Bunkerhill will show new horizons.
This is going to be a very long-term thing and going forward we are targeting ISL but now we are targeting the I-League by winning all four matches of the qualifiers.
Wasim Akram, General Secretary
We have a plan. The first objective would be to make it to the I-League and stay there and then to look at the next big step.
We are working out on many more things but those are now in preliminary stage. The confirm thing is that we have joined hands with the club and about the legal details will be coming very soon.
Aditya Raj, Bunkerhill Private Limited
With a new coach in Yan Law, investors on-boarded, the club are aiming high and looking to play in the ISL in a couple of years. The first step towards achieving that is winning the I-League Qualifier 2020 (2nd Division League Final Round) which is scheduled to start from October 8, 2020. The winners of the tournament will win promotion to the I-League. Find out more details here.
