Northeast United have wrapped up the signing of former Mohun Bagan fullback Ashutosh Mehta on a free transfer ahead of ISL 7.

From Mumbai, the 29-year-old right back started his professional career in the I-League with the now dissolved Mumbai FC in 2010. He made his I-League debut against HASC (HAL) in the 2011-12 season and was part of the squad up until the 2015-16 season. During his stay with Mumbai FC, he was loaned out to FC Pune City and Mumbai City FC as part of the ISL draft.

After leaving Mumbai FC, Mehta moved to Aizawl FC and won the I-League with them in the 2016-17 season. Under manager Khalid Jamil, Aizawl FC became the first team from the Northeast to win the league. Over the next two seasons, Ashutosh spent a season each at ISL sides ATK and FC Pune City.

Last season, Mehta joined Mohun Bagan AC and went onto win the I-League for the second time in his career. With the move to Northeast United FC, Ashutosh will be reunited with his coach from Aizawl FC – Khalid Jamil who is currently the assistant coach and Head of Academy at NEUFC.
