Kerala Blasters have finalised a deal to bring in 22-year-old midfielder Lalthathanga Khawlhring on a three-year contract from Northeast United FC.
From Mizoram, Puitea as he is popularly known as played for Aizawl-based Bethlehem Vengthlang FC in the Mizoram Premier League in the 2015-16 season and picked up the best midfielder award in the league.
Soon after, he joined the DSK Shivajians Academy and transitioned to DSK’s senior side in January 2017. He made his I-League debut with the team against another defunct club Mumbai FC in the 2016-17 season.
A few months later, ISL side Northeast United picked up the midfielder/winger and loaned him out to Aizawl FC for the duration of the 2017-18 season. With Aizawl FC winning the I-League the season before, Puitea featured in both the I-League and the AFC Cup competition.
Khawlhring returned to the club for the 2018-19 ISL season and featured in all games NEUFC played in the league that season including the playoffs. Last season, Lalthathanga featured in nine matches for the club taking his total number of appearances in the ISL to 29.
